sleeping cycles, insomnia, and lack of routine

Did you know that insomnia can be a symptom of CFS/ME/PVFS? What an evil symptom to add to an already exhausted sufferer! Ick!

I never used to have insomnia for the first few years of my having ME/PVFS/CFS but in the last 3 or 4 years, I did develop insomnia as one of my symptoms.

I'd experience patches of insomnia inbetween stretches of hypersomnia.

I sometimes take melatonin to help me sleep (not that often) and sometimes it does help. But when my sleeping hours are completely reversed and I'm up at night, the melatonin unfortunately doesn't help.

That's another problem - I have wierd sleeping patterns!

My sleeping patterns seem to have 'cycles'. My daily sleeping cycle is not a 24-hour cycle which makes it impossible to keep a routine. Every few days my sleeping hours will shift by a few more hours.

At the moment I have 'two mini days' so I find myself up in the early hours of the night/morning, and also later in the evening. Next month I'll probably be sleeping at night again - who knows?
